Description
Lumigan (bimatoprost) lowers pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye.Lumigan eye drops are used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye.Lumigan may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important information
Do not use Lumigan eye drops while wearing contact lenses. The eye drops may contain a preservative that can discolor soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using Lumigan before putting in your contact lenses.
Lumigan may cause a gradual change in the color of your eyes or eyelids and lashes, as well as increased growth or thickness of your eyelashes. These color changes, usually an increase in brown pigment, occur slowly and you may not notice them for months or years. Color changes may be permanent even after your treatment ends, and may occur only in the eye being treated. This could result in a cosmetic difference in eye or eyelash color from one eye to the other.
Do not allow the tip of the Lumigan eye dropper to touch any surface, including your eyes or hands. If the dropper becomes contaminated it could cause an infection in your eye, which can lead to vision loss or serious damage to the eye.
After using Lumigan, wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drops that your doctor has prescribed.
Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.

To make sure Lumigan is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

How to use Lumigan Drops
Apply this medication in the affected eye(s), usually once a day in the evening, or as directed by your doctor. Do not use bimatoprost more often because it will not work as well.
To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface.
Bimatoprost contains a preservative that may stain contact lenses. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using your eye drops. Wait at least 15 minutes after each dose before putting your lenses back in.
Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch. Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure. This will prevent the medication from draining out. Try not to blink and do not rub your eye. Repeat these steps for your other eye if so directed.
Do not rinse the dropper. Replace the dropper cap after each use, and keep the cap tightly closed.
If you are using another kind of eye medication (e.g., drops or ointments), wait at least 5 minutes before applying other medications. Use eye drops before eye ointments to allow the eye drops to enter the eye.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Keep using bimatoprost even if you feel well. Most people with glaucoma or high pressure in the eye do not have symptoms.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Skip the missed dose and use the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
An overdose of Lumigan is not expected to be dangerous. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication.
What should I avoid while using Lumigan?
Avoid using too much of this medicine, which can actually make it less effective in lowering the pressure inside the eye.

DOSAGE
The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. Lumigan® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.01% should not be administered more than once daily since it has been shown that more frequent administration of prostaglandin analogs may decrease the intraocular pressure lowering effect.
Reduction of the intraocular pressure starts approximately 4 hours after the first administration with maximum effect reached within approximately 8 to 12 hours.
Lumigan® 0.01% may be used concomitantly with other topical ophthalmic drug products to lower intraocular pressure. If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least five (5) minutes apart.
